What’s the Difference Between a Wedding Planner and a Wedding Coordinator?
Generally speaking, a wedding planner will work with you from the very beginning of the planning process to choose a theme and color scheme, visit and negotiate with venues and wedding vendors, sample cakes, shop for dresses…the list can go on and on. Full-service wedding planning includes planning all aspects of your wedding reception and ceremony.
The cost of wedding planning is usually between 10 to 15 percent of the total budget for your wedding and reception. A wedding planner with experience will have relationships and contacts with wedding venues and vendors and can help you negotiate a better price than you could get yourself. This will save you money over time! A wedding planner is a good investment for couples who have a long planning timeline and elaborate wedding plans.
A wedding coordinator is less involved. Some wedding coordinators will work with you during the final weeks before your wedding, to help you get everything in order after you’ve booked your venue and vendors. Some wedding coordinators specialize in the “month of” coordination, which includes coordinating your vendors, decor, and setup, as well as directing your guests. They can also help you with cleanup and break-down.
